Catch turns the boring chore of writing a grocery list into a game. Point your camera at any list — handwritten, printed, a receipt, a sticky note — and Catch reads it, drops the items into a tidy checklist sorted by aisle, and rewards you with XP, streaks and combos as you shop. Scan a product's barcode and it will tell you whether it is a good buy; the good ones stock a pantry that mirrors how well you eat. No account. No tracking. Your lists and progress stay on your phone — what leaves it is a list photo you choose to scan, which goes to Anthropic to be read and is then discarded, and the barcode or name of a food being graded, which goes to Open Food Facts to be looked up.
Open the Scan tab and choose Scan a grocery list. Frame your list and tap the shutter. Before the very first scan Catch asks whether it may send the photo away to be read — nothing is sent until you say yes, and you can withdraw that at any time in Settings. Then you get a review screen where you can fix anything before adding. No camera handy? Import a photo, or tap Sample to try it.
The other half of the Scan tab points at a barcode instead and tells you straight whether it is a good buy. The verdict comes from Open Food Facts, the free public food database, so the barcode is sent there to be looked up. Add a good one to a list and check it off once you have bought it, and it lands in your pantry.
Tap an item to check it off. Chain quick taps for a combo multiplier and watch your XP bar fill. Finish a whole list for a bonus.
Use Catch on consecutive days to build a streak. A freeze token saves you if you miss a day.
Tap Add item on any list to type items in. Catch guesses the aisle for you.
Your lists, your pantry and your progress do not — they live on your device and there is no account to sync them to. Two things do. The photo of a list you scan is sent to Anthropic to be read, and only after you have agreed to it. And when a food needs grading, its barcode or its name is sent to Open Food Facts, the public database the grades come from — nothing that identifies you goes with it, and Catch answers from what it already knows on your phone whenever it can. Use good lighting, lay the list flat, and fill the frame. You can always edit items on the review screen or add them by hand.
Profile → the gear in the top corner → Reset all progress.
